Blackjack History

The Game
The origins of the game of Blackjack have been disputed during the last century. Many French historians claim that the game is an off-shoot of Chemin De Fer, commonly called baccarat outside of France. Some Italians claim the game originated in Southern Italy with its heritage drawn from a well-liked game called Seven and a Half.

Although no one is really sure of how or when the game was invented, Blackjack is currently the most popular table game at most American casinos. Part of the massive appeal of the game is that the player is able to make choices that directly influence the results of the game.

Due to the fact that the player is so involved in the outcome of the game, many systems for beating the odds of Blackjack have been developed. These systems range from betting styles to extensive counting of the cards that have been dealt. However, there is no system that guarantees a win on any particular hand. The best basic strategy is to follow a consistent betting style throughout the game.
